Knowing the Voices

I'm a writer. 

So it only makes sense that I talk back to the voices in my head, and they talk back to me.

Something that I've come to realize these last few days as characters come and go in my mind, is their personalities.

Yes.

They have personalities.

Some of them are up beat and mischievous *cough*Ieoie*cough*.

Others are. . .

Different.

Well, that brings me to my current mystery.

Understanding the main character of my current WIP, Darina.

You see, I've come to know her best from writing a quick denouement scene. 

I don't know her from the beginning of the story.

I know her from the end.

When I start going backwards, it's like she shuts up and disappears. . .

I've been trying to get into her head and work backwards, but that isn't working very well.

At least not with the amount of time I have on my hands to work on my writing.

I might start up the Character Monday's again, if just to get her to talk a bit. . .

Or I could start interrogating Jedrek.

I haven't done much with him yet.

Or Elettra. . .

Oddly enough, I've come to know my villains best for this story, siblings Casimir and Nica Sileny.

The last few stories I've worked on I didn't know my villains very much.

So that's happy.

This isn't a very pointed post other than what's going on with my writing. . .

Hopefully I can post something better later!

Greetings, Strange Folk.

My name is Horologium Draco, known to friends as Rolo. 

I am the little known pet dragon/muse that sits on Joy's desk. I have decided to step out of my normal boundaries of staying still, and enter this. . . Fascinatingly miniscule/gigantic world of Bytes.

My Confessions at Night

Truth: I actually haven't read as much fantasy/science fiction as I would have liked.

You see, as a home-schooler, I read what was in the house or what my mom let me sign out of the library.

Don't get me wrong, I love the books I've read and I believe that they have greatly influenced the way I write and look at stories (especially Tolkien and Lewis, the few fantasy novels that were allowed in our house).

So, tonight while looking up information on the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin (and consequently information on Martin as well), I discovered something.

My love of real history and patterns revealed in history has shaped more than my style of writing; it has shaped how I look at every genre that I try to write.

This might seem obvious to others, but it was just a dejavu moment for me. 

Think about it, I love science fiction, and I love fantasy.

I'm currently trying to write a sci-fi were some people have shape-shifting abilities, without the aid of some kind of magic.

It's hard figuring out how it can be done realistically without taking forever or killing the character. 

My love of history, and facts in general, will not let me be with that matter.

How does it happen?

Yes. . .

It's been plaguing me this last week.

Again.

Yet again, look at how I'm building some of my story worlds.

Kingdoms that imitate our past.

People groups that share characteristics with ones here.

That's usually where I end up standing still and pondering how they show their own individualism.

Lately it has really struck me that my worlds might even be too closely imitating ours.

My question then is 'Why is that bad?'

Don't readers want something similar to our world that they can latch onto?

Well, I suppose the answer is a simply 'No, it's not necessarily bad.'

My objection to it is mainly that I want to create each world like an individual entity or character, complete with its own personality and feel to it.

In my head, I can almost picture how they appear, how their lands would be to the five senses, the history behind all of it.

I don't want to create something so similar to our world that you could have read something similar from any historical fiction novel in the stores.

I so badly wish that I could work all day on writing my stories or building my worlds.

Of course, as a sensible college student (which I doubt I am, but God is still working on me. . .) I need to be working on more than that.

We, created in God's image, are meant to do things together, to learn, and communicate face to face.

Sitting in a 'closet' with a notebook/laptop writing all day doesn't really come out as that.

Sometimes I forget that a good thing can go sour.

Well, I'll head to bed in a moment here.

Hello Again!

After a long absence, I'm back!

I'm not sure how often I will be, sadly.

School has started again, and my schedule is pretty full.

On top of my usual classes, I'm starting Piano, and possibly a new job.

But, I have found time to write.

As in, write write.

Fiction write.

Edit write.

Outline write.

WRITE!

Between the last 8-9 days, I've written about a thousand words.

I haven't done that much writing while at college before.

I don't think I'll be able to keep it up all semester long, but it has been very enjoyable.

Edit Update:

I have changed the beginning chapter of Shadow Wings from one page of character introduction, to about three and a half to four pages.

I'm very ecstatic about this, as I was very hesitant about how to go about changing it, and over all I'm liking the edits.

Of course they are not perfect, but they are much better.

Outline Update:

Confession: I haven't gotten much farther with Gypsy Gift than when I'd left it about two-three weeks ago.

Another Confession: I have completely, since last working on the outline, changed how I want the two MC's to end up.

Originally, they were love interests, etc.

Now. . . 

Let's just say that I've really made their relationship complicated. 

But I have done a decent amount of world building and minor character building over the last few weeks.

I might even share some of the maps that I've drawn for them, though I need to redraw the first one.

In fact, I'm quite liking some of the latest ones that I've drawn.

So that's what's been happening in my absence.

Hopefully I'll be able to start picking up on some of my old post series' again, or make some new ones.
