About Me

~*~ Joy D. Hartshorn ~*~

Greetings! It's nice to meet you stranger!

This blog was started to keep me motivated to write my stories, and so far it has sort of worked, with one sort of novel.
Writing is a skill I am learning, but the stories are my passion.

I've been writing since I was about ten or eleven years old, but I've been making up stories long before then.
Some of my earliest childhood memories is playing with my dolls and making up stories with fairies, knights, princes, and, of course, princesses.
When I was about ten or so, my older sister offered to teach me how to use Microsoft Word and write a story.
That story has long since disappeared into a dark void of lost files, but I do remember vaguely that it was about a princess and a blue bird.
My writing has vastly improved since then.

I've written (or tried to write) contemporary fiction, science fiction, fantasy, and christian fiction.
I have never finished anything, and am hoping that this blog will help me accomplish that goal.
UPDATE: First novel, first draft completed in August 2013; may the adventures continue!

This blog will hopefully show you a glimpse into my mind as a writer as well as inspire others.

Random little bits that make up me (in no particular order):

1. I love dolphins. I've loved them since I was a wee little thing, and I will most likely always love them.
2. I love to make things. When I was little, I made mansions with cardboard boxes and old dresser drawers. I made forts in near by woods. When I learned how to crochet, I made my own doll clothes, doll rugs, doll blankets. Then I learned to knit, and now I make all kinds of hats, scarves, and washcloths.
3. I love architecture. If I don't become an author, there is a good chance that I will become an architect.
4. I love to read books. I'm pretty sure that this topic will make its way at some point into this blog.
5. I love Jesus Christ. He is my Savior, my one and only true friend, and I will do everything I can to bring glory to His name.

What I believe: I'm a Christian, Reformed Baptist by association. I believe that the Bible is true, cover to cover. I believe in the literal death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I believe in a literal, 7 day, 24 hour, creation week. I believe that because of the Fall (when Satan tempted Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden in the form of a snake), sin has entered the world, creating an imperfect world full of sin. It is because of the sin in humankind and the world that God, in love, sent His one and only son, Jesus Christ, down to the world to die for us as a just and righteous payment for our sins, in order that we may one day be able to stand face to face with God and give Him the glory. This salvation is available to us by faith through grace. God is incredible, weaving everything in this world into one grand story that, one day, He will bring to a conclusion. Until then, I work to give my life, all I think, speak, and do, to God for His use. He has freed me from a dreary bondage that can only lead to death, and now He leads me as His daughter to a joy filled everlasting life that I can't even begin to comprehend.

Officialish Bio: Joy Hartshorn has been creating stories for as long as she can remember. From creating villages with dolls and having them work together against the odds of being an Ugly Doll and Barbie Doll to run a store, to tales of siblings traveling across a desert that was inside a cellar to a city called Celeste. Now, at the age of 22, she has completed one novel. When she isn't lost in her own worlds, studying for her college classes, or busy using a notebook and pen, she can be found with her nose in a good book with a cup of either tea or coffee, or else knitting while talking with good friends.
