When a Scene Comes Calling

You know when you write something, a drabble perhaps, and it doesn't fit anywhere?

Nothing that you are working on.
Nothing planned for the future.
Nothing that you had thought of before.

It just.
Grew.

Well.
That happened, and I'm super curious about this one.

I'm also uncertain about a lot of it.

For example:
What genre is it?
Why is she hiding her identity from her friends?
Who is this queen character, and what is she up to?
How trusting are her friends?
Et cetera and so on and so forth.

You curious yet?

Okay.

“I know you’re here. We can smell you.”
The female’s smooth, oily speech fills all my senses and I close my eyes and ears, biting my tongue to keep from retching. It’s still there.
“Will you take me to them? Will you promise that you will take me to them?” I finally gasp out. I can almost physically feel the female’s smile.
“Yes.”
With my eyes tightly shut and my hands over my ears, I stand up. Liquid iron tears my hands away from my ears and ties them behind my back.
“Smart girl.” The female murmurs, not that far from my ear. “Smarter than your comrades.”
“Diamonds.” Was all that I answer. I slowly sway my head from side to side. “Diamonds. Diamonds.” I repeat with a smirk.
They had me now. The Diamonds will try to take me. But me, I will not see.
The female’s watery laughter fills my being, followed by the sharp crackle of the males’ laughter. It cut off short soon after we started to walk. A hiss escapes the female and the liquid iron tightens. They know.
“Seer.” She hisses at me. A real smile tugs at my lips. Fire explodes in my senses and I crumple to the ground, only to be yanked up again by the liquid iron.
“Take her away.” The female hisses.
They drag me off. I still refuse to open my eyes. Every sense blurs together. My eyes are tired of being clenched together, but I will not open them. Sulfur fills my nose. Heat, pain, cold, fire. I feel everything. My mouth is parched and a bitter taste fills it. A great weariness fills me.
Yes. I know all about this from long ago.
Yes. I’ve come home once again.
I’m no longer the little girl I once was. Small. Afraid. Obedient. No. I’m home. And I’m not leaving it ever again.
A tight laugh escapes my chest, and my body becomes heavier. I know exactly where I am. I am back where I belong.
I’m in the queen’s chamber.
“Welcome home, little One.” A female’s voice, as light and flighty as silk evades my senses.
I nod stiffly.
“Oh little One. You know that closing your eyes is useless.” She laughs quietly. “You’ve already seen everything.”
I catch my breath as images invade my mind. Heights everywhere. Glittering lights evade almost every surface. A woman’s knowing smile. I clutch my eyes but they don’t leave. I drop to my knees and start to rock back and forth.
“There’s my little One.” The queen’s voice says with satisfaction. “Bring the first one in.”
I don’t hear anyone coming or going. Just the sound of Enoch’s voice entering my senses.
“Where are we going? What’s going on? Hera? Are you okay?”
He never shuts up.
“Ah. So you never told them your very name. Well, little One, I’ll tell him.” A rustling echoes throughout the room. “The woman that you call Hera is not-”
“Don’t. Please.” I beg through clenched teeth.
“Look at her.” I can literally feel the queen shake her head with my whole body.
“She is not Hera. Her name is Adhara Nova Dusana, and she is the noted Seer of our lands. You have perceived this, yes?”
Enoch does not make a sound, though I can physically feel his intense gaze. I crumple down even more, trying to become as small as I can on the floor, and please oh please, disappear.
“Go back to your, ‘friends’, and then we shall see what will happen next.”
I know that tone of voice all too well. She has used it when she does whatever is in her power to put me back in my place. My small, mindlessly obedient place in her world.
Not this time.
With my eyes still fiercely closed, I force myself to stand up against every screaming memory.
“Enoch.” I say as clearly as I can. Ice explodes throughout my body, but I stand straight anyways, against the pain.
“Enoch, remember. D-” My body starts to crumble beneath me against everything that I try. “Diamonds.” I finally gasp out.
A chuckle explodes in my head as everything dims slowly to darkness and deepness and nothingness.
“Oh, my strong-willed One. I’m so glad you are back.”

Intrigued?

I can go in either Sci Fi or Fantasy direction with this one, depending on the concepts I want to go with.

What genre does it feel like to you?

Thanks!

A Printhian Origins trial

I haven't worked on this much, but here goes an idea.
In short, it's what I've been working on during my breaks at work.
I'm currently exploring the idea of adding more races to the lot, but right now I have all that I can handle.

~*~

From man came the five sons; from each son came a general race.
The oldest, the fire elthian; the second, the earth; the third, the human; the fourth, the water; the youngest, the air. From each race sprang up other sub races.
From fire came the drakes and the dragons.
From earth the faes and pixies.
From water the myrs and the nymphs.
From air the satyrs and the sylphs.

Each sub race grew to use a particular talent inherited from their forefather.
The drakes, fire and poisonous fumes; they dwelt on hot, dry land and had scaly skin.
The dragons, fire and ashes; they dwelt in the mountains and could change their shape and size.
The faes, plants and all that grow; they dwelt in warm places and had wings.
The pixies, rocks and minerals; they dwelt in hard to reach places and are in small in stature.
The myrs, water and mist; they dwelt in the oceans and deltas and had fins instead of legs.
The nymphs, water and fog; they dwelt on wet land and can breathe underwater when needed.
The satyrs, wind and storms; the dwelt wherever they can (usually flat and lonely lands), but never in groups of more than two or three.
The sylphs, sight and emotion; the rarest of all the races, they dwelt in dark places and are never fond of company.

The humans are the most ancient of all races.

~*~

As you can probably tell, I'm not using elves as my main race as I had originally started out with.
I am, instead, using my beginning idea of using elements and naming their users elthian.
Which, coincidentally, sounds very similar to elven.
Completely unintentional.
Go figure.

P. S. I have not yet started writing any stories in this realm. I am, currently as well as in the past, using this realm to explore things about fairy tales that have always nagged me. E.g.:  half-lings. If they were completely different kinds of beings (fairies, elves, mermaids, humans, etc.), how could they still have children with each other? So, Printhia was born.

Update: I Do So Dare

So I crashed. . .

And burned.

And I didn't finish.

BUT.

I wrote 7,471 that I wouldn't otherwise have written.
Written mostly over the first two weekends.
And little spurts here and there.

I wish ever so much that I could have done better, but when you have a 12 page paper to write for an Argumentation class, as well as analysis papers to write on C. S. Lewis' writings, and-
Okay.
I'm not going to complain about the reasons that I didn't write as much as I wanted to.

Either way.
I have over 18,000 words now on my Shadow Wings rewrite!
74 pages, five and a bit chapters out of the twelve chapters so far planned.
I'm super hyped.

Except I lost my outline while packing everything up for Christmas break. . .

So.

Ever heard of a Fifty Page Edit?

Yup.

That's my goal by Christmas.

:)

Check this out!

Check this out!!!

Character Abigail has been interviewed by another blogger!!!

I'm super excited, as you can see.

:)

On another note, school had been crazy, and I've only just recently gotten back to my writing.
One of the things that I've started is a 'beginnings' story for my Printhia world.
I'm starting it off similar to the Genesis account, because my brain is too dead to think of another way to try and write it.

I'll give more updates sometime soon!

I Do So Dare

I don't know how I'll survive, but I'm doing it.

wonderous-world: Milky Way over the Storms by Jordan Cantelo

I'm doing National Novel Writing Month.

(If you're doing it too, feel free to friend me)

I also have a lot of projects due by the end of this month, so I'm not sure how I'll survive.

But I'm going to somehow.

Update from College

The last few weeks have been hectic and full.
Even so, I've been able to write close to five thousand words with following the 100 for 100 challenge hosted by the Go Teen Writers creators, Stephanie Morrill and Jill Williamson.
I'm almost done with chapter two and I'm sitting on 41 pages for my Shadow Wings rewrite.

~/\~

A proper cup of tea and a good book.

~\/~

I've joined a writers club on my college campus this semester.
I had been using our group Word Wars for the 100 for 100 challenge, but I might start using that time for my Creative Writing classwork.

For my Creative Writing class I've already worked with two others to create a short drama.
Next is a short story.
I'm not sure yet what it'll be about, but I'm leaning on taking a family tradition and putting it into a steampunk/fantasy setting.
I'm getting rather excited about the prospect.

Seasons

Original Four Seasons Painting - Large Square Original Modern Art On Canvas Painting Tree Wall Decor "365 Days of Happiness III"

Just like there are four seasons in a year, there are seasons in a writer's life.

I'm currently in the college season, meaning that it's going to be nearly impossible for me to keep up with this blog.
My hope is to post from time to time, whether Wednesday Pinspirations or writing updates.

Either way, I most likely won't be posting much until around mid-December.

On another happier note, I'm working on rewriting Shadow Wings again.
I'm adding a new beginning with Abigail in it, and so far I've reverted to my age old 'telling' writing.
I hate it, but its the only way that I've found where I actually get the words on the page without throwing my laptop across the room in frustration. . .
I must admit though, Abigail sounds way more intelligent than a lot of my past characters, and I'm finding her to be a very interesting character.

Gypsy Gift is sitting for now, but that's only because I've suddenly become really inspired with Shadow Wings.
I have been slowly working on the Baumhation culture, and I think I have a better grasp on how to write from Darina's PoV.

On the note of college, I must admit that I'm excited about this semester!
I'm taking a creative writing class, and I'm currently working on a group project for creating an original drama.
I've never written a drama before, and I'm really excited about it.

That's all for now!

Keep on Writing!
